Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and improve security controls across the enterprise data estate. You will manage encryption, key management, access and entitlement controls, data classification and masking, and secure data pipelines in a fully remote arrangement.

The role collaborates with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams to harden configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server, while ensuring

Qualifications

• 7+ years in information security, cloud or data engineering, incl. 2+ years in data protection or database security.
• Lifecycle knowledge: classification, encryption, key management, access controls, monitoring.
• Experience with Azure SQL and SQL Server security and governance.
• Proficiency with SQL for assessing queries, permissions, and schemas.
• Scripting and automation via platform APIs and IaC.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain data protection controls across enterprise data estate.
• Enforce classification, labeling, masking, redaction and de-identification.
• Configure encryption for data at rest/in transit; manage CMK and keys.
• Apply least-privilege access across platforms, databases, and pipelines.
• Hardening for Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, data lakes and storage.
• Embed controls in ingestion, transformation, sharing, and export workflows.
• Secure service identities, connectors, endpoints, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Support audits and regulatory reviews with technical evidence.
