Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve security controls across the enterprise data estate. The role focuses on encryption, key management, access controls, and data classification, working with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency with SQL and secure data practices across cloud data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with encryption, key management, access controls, and data protection.
• Familiarity with cloud analytics platforms (Azure SQL, SQL Server) and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Implement, operate, and improve data protection controls across enterprise data estates.
• Configure and manage data encryption for data at rest and in transit; manage keys and secrets.
• Enforce least-privilege access models across data platforms and perform entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for cloud platforms and databases; assess permissions and audit settings.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and export workflows; secure service identities and network paths.
• Automate control deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
• Document implementation guides, standards, and runbooks; provide hands-on support to teams.
