Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server. This is a hands-on role focused on encryption, access controls, data classification, and secure data pipelines.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• Experience with cloud data and analytics platforms including Azure SQL and SQL Server.
• Proficiency with SQL and database security configurations.
• Scripting and automation using platform APIs, IaC, or similar tooling.

Responsibilities

• Implement, operate, and improve data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption at rest and in transit, key management, and CMKs.
• Maintain least-privilege access models across data platforms, databases, and pipelines.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and sharing workflows.
• Support audits and regulatory reviews with technical evidence.
