Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and maintain data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including platforms like Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server.

You will harden configurations, enforce least-privilege access, manage encryption and keys, and automate control deployment while collaborating with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams. This is a remote role supporting US states.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security, or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with data protection lifecycle including classification, encryption, key management, and access controls.
• Proficiency with SQL and secure data access practices.
• Familiarity with security platforms and cloud data services.

Responsibilities

• Implements and maintains data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configures and operates encryption controls for data at rest and in transit, including CMK and key rotation.
• Implements least-privilege access models across data platforms, RBAC/ABAC where supported.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server and data lakes.
• Embeds security controls into data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, sharing and export workflows.
• Automates control deployment, configuration assessment, and compliance validation.
