Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Data Platform Engineer to drive healthcare data platform modernization from a remote location. The role focuses on migrating from MSSQL/XML object stores to a scalable AWS data architecture enabling SQL-based reports for business users.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years of data engineering experience with a strong AWS background, plus the ability to optimize cost and performance. US-based remote work and Public Trust clearance are required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience architecting cloud data platform migrations in healthcare environments.
• Proven track record selecting AWS data services for reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS data services including S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM and CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL for relational querying over XML/JSON data, and XML data stores at scale.
• Familiarity with CI/CD using AWS tools and IaC (CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform).
• Excellent communication of architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve from MSSQL XML object store toward scalable AWS data architecture for SQL-based reporting.
• Evaluate AWS data strategy and storage options (S3+Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Design and build reporting/query layer for business users using familiar SQL tooling.
• Architect XML object store migration to AWS platform with optimal formats and partitioning.
• Maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
• Optimize query performance and costs across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into data models.
• Work with .NET backend engineers to ensure data flow from EDI processing into the new data layer.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure with AWS-native tools.
• Apply IaC practices using CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform.
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries for diverse audiences.
