Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead the modernization of a healthcare data platform from MSSQL XML to a scalable AWS-native architecture. You will enable business stakeholders to run SQL-based reports with minimal friction and partner with a C#/.Net team to streamline data flows from EDI pipelines into the new data layer.

Responsibilities include designing data models, evaluating AWS storage/compute options, and building a robust data catalog and CI/CD

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience migrating cloud data platforms in healthcare environments.
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Strong SQL skills and data modeling for relational and semi-structured data.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and transformation at scale.
• Familiarity with AWS analytics and BI tooling (Athena, QuickSight, Redshift).
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows; CI/CD in AWS.
• IaC practices using CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
• Ability to communicate architectural decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Migrate XML object store data to AWS data architecture with scalable reporting.
• Evaluate AWS data strategies and storage options (S3, Athena, RDS, Redshift).
• Design reporting/query layers for business users using familiar SQL tooling.
• Architect data migration paths and define storage formats and partitioning.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas and metadata management.
