Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead healthcare data platform modernization and migrate the XML object store to a scalable AWS architecture. You will enable SQL-based reporting for business users and collaborate with a C#/.Net team to unify data flows from EDI pipelines.

The role emphasizes evaluating AWS data services, building a robust data catalog, and implementing CI/CD with IaC for reliable data infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience architecting cloud data platform migrations in production environments.
• Track record selecting AWS data services for reporting and queries.
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for business users.
• Hands-on AWS data services: S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL for relational layers over XML/JSON.
• Familiarity with XML-heavy data stores and healthcare data workflows.
• Proficiency with CI/CD and IaC using AWS CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform.
• Able to articulate architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with Agile (Scrum/Kanban) and JIRA.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Migrate XML object store from MSSQL to a scalable AWS data architecture with SQL reporting.
• Evaluate AWS data strategy and storage options (S3+Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Build reporting layers enabling non-technical users to run SQL queries easily.
• Architect migration paths, data organization, partitioning, and performance tuning.
• Create and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
• Optimize cost and performance across AWS services and data pipelines.
• Work with business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into durable data models.
• Collaborate with C#/.Net engineers on data flows from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD and IaC using CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy and CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform.
