Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to advance the healthcare data platform modernization from MSSQL XML objects toward a cloud-native AWS architecture. You will collaborate with business stakeholders and a back-end C#/.Net team to enable performant SQL-based reporting on healthcare data.

This 100% U.S.-based remote role requires strong AWS data services knowledge, experience with data migrations, and the ability to drive architecture decisions with limited direction.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience architecting cloud data migrations in production environments.
• Ability to select AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS data services including S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL skills for relational queries over XML/JSON data.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and migrations.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and IaC tools (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy; CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform).
• Ability to communicate architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience gathering reporting requirements into data models.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve from MSSQL XML object store toward a scalable AWS data architecture for SQL-based reports.
• Evaluate AWS data strategies and storage architectures (S3+Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Design and build a reporting layer enabling business users to run relational SQL queries.
• Architect migration of XML object store data from MSSQL into AWS, defining formats and partitioning.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into data models.
• Coordinate data flows with back-end C#/.Net integration and EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using AWS-native tooling and IaC practices.
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries for technical and non-technical audiences.
