Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead modernization of the healthcare data platform. This role focuses on migrating from MSSQL XML object stores to a scalable, cloud-native AWS architecture, enabling SQL-based reports for business users.

You will evaluate AWS data services, design efficient storage and query patterns, and collaborate with a back-end C#/.Net engineer to ensure seamless data flow through EDI pipelines. Remote, full-time, U.S.-based.

Qualifications

8+ years in software or data engineering with strong AWS focus.

Responsibilities

Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
Move from MSSQL XML object store to cloud-native AWS data architecture for SQL-based reporting.
Evaluate AWS data strategy and optimal storage/query architectures (S3 + Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
Design and build reporting/query layer for business users with familiar SQL tools.
Architect XML object store migration from MSSQL to AWS, with storage formats and partitioning.
Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
