Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to advance a healthcare data platform in a remote setting. The role focuses on building a cloud-native AWS data architecture to enable fast, SQL-based reports for business stakeholders.

You will evaluate AWS data strategies, design migration paths from XML object stores, and collaborate with analysts to deliver scalable data models and efficient querying. Strong emphasis on IaC, CI/CD, and data cataloging.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience architecting cloud data migrations in production environments.
• Experience selecting AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS experience across S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL to design relational query layers over XML/JSON.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and transformations at scale.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and IaC tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve from MSSQL/XML object store to a scalable AWS data architecture.
• Evaluate AWS data strategies and storage options for reporting needs.
• Design and build a reporting layer for SQL queries against healthcare data.
• Architect migration paths for XML data to the new platform.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into data models.
• Coordinate with back-end engineers to ensure clean data flow from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using AWS-native tooling and IaC practices.
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries clearly.
