Job summary

Deckers Brands in the United States (Remote) seeks a Data Engineering Lead to guide technical direction for data platforms, pipelines, and analytics models. You will lead design reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor distributed teams to deliver scalable, reliable data products across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 8–10 years building enterprise-grade data platforms, pipelines, and analytics-ready models.
• 3+ years leading data engineering delivery, including design review and standards enforcement.
• Hands-on involvement with dbt in production, including model design, testing, CI/CD and documentation.
• Strong AWS data engineering experience (S3, Redshift, Glue, Athena, Lambda).
• Experience guiding distributed teams and external partners.
• Experience with data quality practices including automated testing, reconciliation, freshness monitoring, and lineage.
• Experience supporting ML/advanced analytics via curated, feature-ready datasets.
• Deep expertise in dimensional modeling and analytics engineering; dbt best practices and SQL tuning.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python; familiarity with Airflow.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day technical leadership for data engineering design, build quality, and delivery standards across enterprise data products.
• Review designs and enforce coding standards across internal and partner engineering, acting as the technical review gate before big work starts.
• Own engineering standards for model design, naming, code review, CI/CD, testing, documentation, and deployment across distributed teams.
• Lead the design and delivery of analytics-ready data models and transformation layers using dbt with tests and governance.
• Build and operate cloud-native ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines on AWS focusing on reliability and cost efficiency.
• Establish and maintain reusable data engineering patterns for ingestion, transformation, and delivery.
• Provide technical direction across distributed engineering teams, including external partners, upholding Deckers standards.
• Coach and develop data engineers through design reviews, pairing, and knowledge transfer.
• Document engineering patterns and runbooks to reduce key-person dependency.
• Drive data quality practices including source definitions, freshness monitoring, automated tests, reconciliation, and lineage.
• Lead root-cause analysis and remediation for complex production data issues.
• Translate business needs from finance, sales, supply chain, product, and consumer stakeholders into scalable data designs.
• Partner with data architecture, cloud engineering, and security to align designs with enterprise requirements.
