Job summary

SSM Health is seeking an experienced Coding Education Specialist to develop and coordinate coding educational programs across locations. You will promote consistency and accuracy in coding and documentation practices and act as a liaison for coding questions between providers, coding teams, and educational departments.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with at least three years of experience and AHIMA/AAPC certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and education.
• Certifications in coding and health information management.
• Experience in coding education and provider education.

Responsibilities

• Drives assessment of provider documentation to improve coding accuracy and outcomes.
• Delivers training and education on coding processes and documentation techniques.
• Acts as SME for providers and coders with guidance on daily coding issues.
• Establishes internal quality review processes and training for providers and coders.
• Evaluates provider documentation for clarity and completeness to ensure correct codes.
• Performs audits of provider documentation and develops education based on findings.
• Maintains clear communication with coding and corporate responsibility regarding education directions.

Education

Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare or related field

Certified Coding Associate (CCA) - AHIMA

Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P) - AHIMA

Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) - AAPC

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - AAPC

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA
