Job summary

The University of Vermont Health Network seeks a Coder Level II to apply ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to outpatient Emergency Care Center/Fast Track accounts. The role supports multiple outpatient coding areas and requires knowledge of Medical Necessity for Medicare targeted tests.

Remote work is offered; candidates should meet AHIMA productivity benchmarks and maintain high accuracy. Prior ED coding experience and appropriate credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Successful completion of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology classes.
• Working knowledge of ICD-10CM and CPT coding guidelines and conventions.
• Understanding of Medical Necessity for Medicare targeted tests.
• One of the following experience/credential options: a minimum of two years ED experience (technical and professional) or a minimum of one year ED coding plus one year in Ancillary/Clinic/OB-GYN/Medical Necessity/SNF with CCS/CCS-P/RHIT/RHIA credentials.
• Ability to achieve and maintain at least 93% accuracy while meeting AHIMA productivity benchmarks.
• Interpersonal skills needed to interact with Medical Staff and staff from various departments.
• If already in CodER Level I and training to Level II, eligible for Level II pay rate after training on ED coding.

Responsibilities

• Apply ICD-10-CM diagnostic and CPT procedure codes to outpatient Emergency Care Center/Fast Track accounts.
• Proficient in at least one other area of outpatient coding (e.g., Ancillary Services, Clinics, OB-GYN, Medical Necessity, SNF).
• Work under supervision following hospital and department policies and procedures.
• Age-appropriate care considerations as applicable.
