Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a seasoned Attorney to independently manage moderately complex civil litigation matters in California, with remote work supported and appearances as required. The role demands strong knowledge of insurance law, strategic case management, and client relationship skills.

You will mentor junior attorneys, lead settlement negotiations, and contribute to process improvements while upholding the highest ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the California bar in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law.
• Proven experience managing moderately complex litigation with favorable outcomes.
• General knowledge of insurance law, including workers’ compensation and/or No-Fault law.
• Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Proficient in advanced e-discovery tools, case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal staff.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
• Commitment to ethical legal practice and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Litigation management across all phases for moderate to high-value claims (up to ~$50,000 exposure).
• Support senior Counsels throughout trial and hearings, including preparation and management.
• Develop and implement sophisticated legal strategies for discovery and trial prep.
• Leverage e-discovery tools and data analysis to optimize workflows and reduce costs.
• Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and claims teams.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
• Design and deliver training for Legal, Claims, and related teams; mentor junior staff.
• Ensure documents comply with MRPC and regulatory requirements; pursue process improvements.
