Job summary

Speechify is a distributed company building a platform powering text-to-speech products used by millions. As a Software Engineer, Platform in Saint Paul, you will design, implement, and own backend services that run payments, subscriptions, auth, and analytics across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and web.

You'll optimize performance and reliability, collaborate with product and frontend teams, and help scale to handle tens of millions of users.

Qualifications

Proven backend experience in TS/Node (required).
Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud.
Habit of giving away work you used to own, and something to show for the room it created.
Daily working setup with AI agents you can describe in detail.
Instinct to check a result against logs, database state, and actual requests.
Judgment about what not to build and ability to explain why you dropped it.
Preference for being corrected over being right.
Docker and containerized deployments are a plus.
Deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes is a plus.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
Take on services you didn't write and make them faster, cheaper, and harder to break.
Establish correctness before shipping and leave checks in place for future integrity.
Automate repetitive parts of the role to free up time for more impact.
Turn work into repeatable templates for the team.
Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on top of us.
Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend ahead of product direction.
