Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Software Engineer for Platform in Iowa City, IA. You will design, build, and own backend services powering payments, subscriptions, auth, and the TTS API across web and mobile platforms.

Qualifications

• Backend experience with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Experience deploying and maintaining cloud services (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Strong emphasis on correctness, reliability, and measurable outcomes.
• Ability to design scalable APIs and services for multi-client use.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
• Improve and optimize existing services for speed, cost, and resilience.
• Ensure correctness through testing, observability, and robust deployment practices.
• Automate repetitive aspects of the role to increase team efficiency.
• Convert one-off work into repeatable, scalable patterns for the team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on Speechify.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture aligned with product direction.
