Job summary

Coinbase, a remote-first company, is seeking a backend-focused engineer to build the infrastructure powering global payments and stablecoins. You will design and deploy backend systems and APIs used by partners and customers, collaborating across product, design, and compliance to balance speed, security, and regulatory needs.

The role emphasizes ownership as DRI, performance improvements, and raising the technical bar through code reviews and architecture patterns.

Qualifications

2+ years of software engineering experience building backend systems.
Proficiency in Go and Java; cloud experience with AWS/GCP.
Experience serving as DRI for end-to-end delivery.
Experience with blockchain/crypto technologies such as stablecoins or on-chain payments.
Ability to write technical design documents and communicate trade-offs.
Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

Own key projects end-to-end as the Directly Responsible Individual.
Build backend systems, infrastructure, and APIs enabling payments and transfers.
Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Compliance.
Improve performance, scalability, and reliability of distributed systems.
Contribute to engineering standards and code reviews.
