Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a backend engineer to own end-to-end projects powering stablecoin-based money movements. You will design and build backend systems, APIs, and infrastructure to enable secure, scalable transfers in a remote-first company that values in-person surges quarterly.

You will work with product, design, infra, and compliance to balance speed, security, and regulatory needs while focusing on performance and reliability of distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineering building and operating backend systems, preferably fintech/payments/crypto
• Proficiency in backend languages (Go, Java) and cloud (AWS, GCP) with distributed systems design experience
• Experience serving as DRI for end-to-end delivery from design to production
• Experience with blockchain/crypto tech (stablecoins, on-chain payments, smart contracts such as Ethereum/Solana/Base)
• Ability to write technical design docs and communicate architecture trade-offs to product/engineering stakeholders
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve efficiency, cost, and quality

Responsibilities

• Own key projects end-to-end as the Directly Responsible Individual, driving stablecoin payments features from design to deployment
• Build backend systems, infra, and APIs enabling embedding stablecoin payments in partner products
• Collaborate with Product/Design/Infra/Compliance to balance speed, security and regulatory needs
• Improve performance, scalability, reliability of distributed systems and fix bottlenecks before impacting customers
• Contribute to engineering quality via code reviews and architectural patterns
