Job summary

GAF is seeking an Asphalt Process Excellence Manager to lead a multi-plant team across oxidation and non-oxidation operations, driving safety, efficiency, and cost improvements in manufacturing and supply chain.

This role partners with Corporate Engineering, Operations, Plant personnel, R&D, QA, third-party oxidizers, and Supply Chain to deploy standards, solve complex problems, and advance continuous improvement using SPC, lean, DOE, and other tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
• 5+ years supporting process engineering at multiple locations.
• Supervisory or project management leadership experience.
• Experience in continuous web machine operation or design.
• Knowledge of roofing process and ASTM Roofing Codes.
• Advanced communication and analytical skills.
• Advanced organizational and problem solving skills.
• Strong ability to influence cross-functional and cross-plant decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team to define, document, and implement Standards and Best Known Practices for areas of responsibility; deploy at plants.
• Drive Communities of Practice to utilize talent across the network and share knowledge.
• Identify cost savings and efficiency opportunities; reduce variation, downtime, scrap, and costs.
• Serve as the point of contact for process and equipment experts; establish standards for plant systems.
• Collaborate with Corporate and Plants to adopt new technology solutions.
• Participate in HAZOP initiatives and lead safety improvements.
• Provide expertise, assign leads, and use CoP to address quality issues or large claims.
• Apply structured problem-solving tools (SPC, 5-Why, A3, etc.).
• Set team priorities using plant metrics and data analytics.
• Lead change management and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Coach and mentor teams to build bench strength across the network.
