Job summary

GAF, the leading roofing manufacturer in North America, seeks an Asphalt Process Excellence Manager to lead a multi-plant team across oxidation facilities. You will drive safety, efficiency, and cost improvements through standardized practices, data analytics, and cross-functional collaboration.

This role partners with Corporate Engineering, Operations, Plant personnel, R&D, QA, and Supply Chain to implement process improvements, manage change, and mentor teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum of 10+ years of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Minimum of 5+ years supporting process engineering at multiple locations.
• Supervisory experience or project management lead experience.
• Experience in continuous web machine operation or design.
• Knowledge of roofing process and ASTM Roofing Codes.
• Advanced communication skills; written, verbal, and listening.
• Advanced analytical skills
• Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail – able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously
• Advanced problem solving skills
• Advanced communication skills across multiple levels of the organization both with technical and managerial teams.
• Advanced Leadership skills in developing new techniques and processes for data analysis.
• Demonstrated hands‑on experience
• Strong ability to influence and drive cross‑functional and cross‑plant decisions and initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Leads the team to define, document, and implement Standards and Best Known Practices for their areas of responsibility.
• Drives participation within Communities of Practice to utilize talent across the network and lead troubleshooting efforts.
• Leads identification and execution of cost savings and efficiency improvements by benchmarking with plants and coordinating network-wide improvements.
• Acts as designated point of contact for internal and external process and equipment experts to establish standards.
• Collaborates with Corporate teams and Plants to drive adoption of new technology.
• Participates in HAZOP initiatives and identifies safety improvements during plant visits.
• Provides expertise, assigns team leads, and uses CoP to address plant quality issues or large claims.
• Implements systematic approaches in structured problem solving and process improvement tools (SPC, A3, 5-Whys, etc.).
• Sets priorities using plant metrics and data analytics to allocate resources effectively.
• Leads change management and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
• Coaches and mentors technical and process teams to build bench strength across the network.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
