Job summary

The Ambulatory Surgery MRT Coder position with the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System in Cleveland is a full-time contractor role. You will code ambulatory surgery encounters and validate CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, and related documentation. Applicants must be a U.S.

citizen, fluent in English, and hold an AHIMA or AAPC credential with at least two years of VA-level coding experience. Knowledge of Oracle Health, Solventum CRS, VistA, CPRS, and VIRR is preferred.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and fluency in spoken and written English.
• Current AHIMA or AAPC credential maintained during performance.
• At least two years of continuous professional coding experience in a VA-level healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Review ambulatory surgery records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier information.
• Code surgical procedures and related anesthesia, pathology, diagnostic, and professional services as assigned.
• Validate operative documentation, medical necessity, bundling edits, and code sequencing.
• Submit compliant provider queries when operative or supporting documentation requires clarification.
• Correct coding edits, rejections, audit findings, and identified documentation deficiencies.
• Meet contract standards for accuracy, productivity, timeliness, and data integrity.
