Job summary

Humana seeks an Associate Vice President, Model & AI Governance, to establish and oversee the organization’s framework for model governance, AI risk management, and Responsible AI. The role partners across leadership in technology, data, compliance and privacy while maintaining independence from model development teams.

The candidate will define governance standards, risk appetite, and escalation thresholds, and lead governance committees to report on risk exposure and policy compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 15+ years of progressive experience in risk management, model risk management, AI governance, technology risk, data governance, analytics, compliance, internal audit or related disciplines
• Significant experience leading enterprise-wide model governance, AI governance or technology risk programs
• Experience operating at a senior/executive level in a complex regulated environment
• Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies, generative AI, model development and validation, data governance, and technology risk
• Knowledge of emerging AI regulatory and governance frameworks and healthcare regulatory requirements
• Strong understanding of enterprise risk management, internal controls, issue management and risk appetite frameworks
• Experience presenting complex risk and governance topics to executive leadership and Board-level audiences

Responsibilities

• Own and enhance the enterprise model governance framework (identification, inventory, classification, risk tiering, development, validation, approval, implementation, monitoring)
• Define model risk appetite, risk taxonomy, minimum control standards and escalation thresholds
• Provide effective challenge over model development, validation, implementation, monitoring and performance
• Oversee the enterprise model inventory and risk classification and documentation
• Establish standards for model validation, including bias, explainability and ongoing monitoring
• Ensure governance over third-party and externally developed models
• Develop and oversee the organization’s Responsible AI framework and principles
• Establish governance standards addressing fairness, bias, transparency, explainability and privacy
• Develop AI risk assessments and approval requirements proportional to impact
• Lead AI risk governance committees and report to executives and boards
• Promote a culture of responsible AI through training and governance education
