Job summary

Ascension Health seeks a dedicated nurse in Indianapolis, IN to join the Cardiothoracic Stepdown unit. You will deliver specialized care in a 48-bed unit, supporting complex cardiovascular surgical patients such as transplants, CABG and VADs, and monitoring post-op thoracic procedures in a high-acuity setting.

The role requires Indiana RN licensure, a nursing diploma, and BLS certification within 30 days; inpatient experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 1 month of hire date.
• RN license issued by Indiana Board of Nursing.
• Diploma from an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care in a 48-bed progressive care unit.
• Care for complex cardiovascular surgical patients including transplant, CABG and VAD.
• Manage post-op care for peripheral vascular procedures and renal transplants.
• Monitor thoracic surgery patients, including VATS and robotic procedures.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Provides specialized nursing care in a 48-bed specialized progressive care unit.

• Cares for complex cardiovascular surgical patients, including transplant, CABG, and VAD recipients.

• Manages post-op care for peripheral vascular procedures and renal transplants.

• Monitors thoracic surgery patients, including VATS, robotic procedures, and resections.

Maintains 1:3 to 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios with Patient Care Technician support.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

Required Credential(s):

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.

Previous in-patient experience preferred
