Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking a Director of Business Development to join the Marketing and Client Development team in San Francisco. The role leads market BD efforts, driving growth across priority clients, prospects, and sectors in partnership with Marketing.

You will engage with key clients, shape strategic opportunities, and translate competitive intelligence into actionable plans. Responsibilities include regional leadership of BD, executive engagement, and coaching of BD professionals.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of exempt-level experience in marketing or business development.
• 5+ years of management experience in relevant roles.
• Strong relationship-building and market-facing presence.
• Proficiency with enterprise CRM ecosystems (e.g., Salesforce).
• Willingness to travel and lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Set the BD agenda for each market and oversee pipeline, activity, and revenue trends regionally.
• Engage with priority clients and strategic opportunities to open doors or advance complex work.
• Evaluate results and market conditions to adjust BD strategies and reallocate resources.
• Align regional BD with Marketing to coordinate outreach, events, campaigns, and follow-up.
