Job summary

Republic Services in Memphis, TN is seeking a Level 2 Sorter to support the recycling center's operations. You will sort and segregate recoverable materials from incoming waste, deposit materials into chutes, and assist other sorters with heavy items while maintaining safety protocols.

Responsibilities include minimizing downtime, training staff on the line, inspecting and clearing jams, and keeping the work area clean. Prior recycling experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Trained in Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
• Minimum of 6 months related experience in a recycling center.

Responsibilities

• Sort and segregate recoverable materials from incoming waste.
• Deposit recoverable material safely into appropriate chute.
• Assist other sorters on heavy or bulky items.
• Communicate with equipment operators regarding incoming loads that require special attention.
• Increase production of the sort line by minimizing downtime and training sorters on the line.
• Ensure compliance with safety rules and emergency stop procedures on the sort line.
• Inspect and remove jams on the sort line and perform daily cleaning of sorting equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of facility during shift and assist with end-of-shift cleaning.
• Distinguish different types of recyclables (e.g., PETE, HDPE, glass colors, aluminum from tin).
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
