POSITION OVERVIEW

As a receptionist, your major responsibilities include reception and communications with students, families, and visitors. Administrative support as needed. This individual must have strong communication skills and “soft skills” with the innate ability to make anyone feel welcome, to respond versus react, and to stay calm during challenging situations. There is a lot going on at the front desk of a school, so a successful receptionist is organized and develops strong systems to stay on top of the expected and unexpected on a daily basis.

WHAT IS EL EDUCATION?

EL Education is a national school transformation organization operating in schools throughout the country. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Warmly greet all visitors to the school and direct them to the appropriate place or person
  • Control and monitor entry and access to the building
  • Implement safety protocols for evacuations, lockdowns, and external “stay in place”
  • Respond to visitor & parent/guardian requests as appropriate
  • Serve as the primary contact for all school communication via phone
  • Responsible for routing calls promptly and to the accurate extension/voicemail, and taking messages, as needed
  • Responsible for sending direct mail and other notices that need to be sent home by the school
  • Maintain student attendance, tardies, and early dismissals in the PowerSchool database, including communication with families
  • Maintain visitor logs
  • Sort incoming mail
  • Update the PowerSchool student information system with address and student information changes as needed
  • Accept mail and deliveries and route to the appropriate recipient
  • Assist with data entry and special projects as needed
  • Maintain a neat, welcoming & organized front desk and lobby
  • Maintain a neat and organized copy and mailroom
  • Assist with other administrative duties as defined by the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Strong customer service skills required
  • Fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is preferred
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with families, visitors, students, faculty, and staff
  • Experience working with PowerSchool or a similar student information system database
  • Experience with Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc)
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Prior experience working with students in an academic or recreational setting preferred
  • Detail‑oriented, excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills
  • Positive energy and the ability to be a strong role model for students
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Must be able to move about the school building to assist visitors, staff, and/or students
  • Must be able to lift/move materials up to 25 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with visitors, students, staff, and parents in person, on the phone, and digitally
COMPENSATION

Salary range is $40,000 - $45,000 per year, depending on experience.

7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Full-time, 190 days/year, with benefits, and paid holidays and school vacations
