Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools is seeking a Tutor for a temporary assignment ending May 26, 2027. The position pays $15.00 per hour for non-certified tutors and $25.00 per hour for certified tutors. Ten-month employment with at-will status and non-exempt classification.

Reports to the Principal and supports students with tutorial services to improve academic understanding and skills. The tutor will follow all policies, work with tutees individually or in groups, and strive to motivate students

Qualifications

• Two-year degree or 48 semester hours of college-level coursework.

Responsibilities

• Follow school rules, policies, and procedures and state/federal regulations.
• Provide academic assistance to tutees, in groups or individually.
• Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
• Help students build self-confidence and reduce fear of failure in academics.
• Help students develop study skills for academic success.
• Establish rapport with assigned students and serve as a role model.
• Maintain confidentiality for all matters.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

TITLE: Tutor

QUALIFICATIONS: Two-year degree or 48 semester hours of college-level coursework

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: Provide tutorial services to assist students in achieving a better understanding of subject matter and to improve academic capabilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to schools.
• Provide academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.
• Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
• Help students develop self-confidence and reduce fear of failure in academic work.
• Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
• Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned students.
• Serve as a role model for students.
• Maintain strict confidentiality for all matters.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employment/At Will/FLSA Non-Exempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade: $15.00/Hour Non-Certified $25.00/Hour Certified

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
