Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools seeks a Tutor to provide targeted academic support to students in need of extra help. The tutor will work under the principal and contribute to improving subject understanding and study skills.

Ten-month employment with a starting wage of $15.00 per hour for non-certified staff or $25.00 per hour for certified staff. The position emphasizes maintaining confidentiality, following school policies, and supporting students’ academic growth through group or individual

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree or 48 semester hours of college-level coursework.
  • Demonstrate functional knowledge of computers.
  • Ability to maintain order and discipline.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students.
  • Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to schools.
  • Provide academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.
  • Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
  • Help students develop self-confidence and reduce fear of failure in academic work.
  • Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned students.
  • Serve as a role model for students.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality for all matters.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal.

Job Description

TITLE: Tutor
QUALIFICATIONS: Two-year degree or 48 semester hours of college-level coursework
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: Provide tutorial services to assist students in achieving a better understanding of subject matter and to improve academic capabilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to schools.
  • Provide academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
