Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools is seeking a Tutor to provide academic support to students in groups or one-on-one settings, under the supervision of the Director of Title III, Policy, and World Languages.

The role's responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, building rapport with students, and fostering their study skills and confidence. Employment runs for ten months as an at-will, non-exempt position with tiered hourly pay for certified vs. non-certified staff.

Qualifications

• Two Year Degree or 48 semester hours preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Capacity to motivate and guide students in learning.

Responsibilities

Job Description

TITLE: Tutor

QUALIFICATIONS: Two Year Degree or 48 semester hours of college level coursework (preferred)

REPORTS TO: Director of Title III, Policy, and World Languages

JOB GOAL: Provide tutorial services to assist students in achieving a better understanding of subject matter and to improve academic capabilities.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to schools.
• Provide academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.
• Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
• Help students develop self-confidence and reduce fear of failure in academic work.
• Help students develop study skills necessary for academic success.
• Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned students.
• Serve as a role model for students.
• Maintain strict confidentiality for all matters.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employment/At Will/FLSA Non-Exempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade: $15.00/Hour Non-Certified $25.00/Hour Certified

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
