Job summary

BNSF is seeking conductor trainees to join our Transportation department in a role that supports safe, efficient freight movement. The position requires on-call availability, nights, weekends and holidays, with travel to designated locations as needed.

Training is provided on-the-job and in classrooms, with relocation not offered. Expect to learn train operations, signals interpretation, hand brakes, air hoses, and safety protocols while adhering to federal regulations.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English.
• Able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
• Able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to travel as required for the role.
• Must be able to climb on/off equipment and work in safety-sensitive environments.

Responsibilities

• Communications: receive, relay, and act on information via multiple devices.
• Switching functions: operate track switches and derails to route trains.
• Train and equipment inspections: inspect cars, check train make-up and report issues.
• Work in varied weather and safety-sensitive conditions; follow safety policies and PPE requirements.
