Job summary

BNSF Railway is seeking a Conductor Trainee for the Alliance, Nebraska area. This Primary Recall position offers company-paid on-the-job and classroom training for up to 19 weeks, including travel to Overland Park, KS.

There is a three-year obligation to return to the hiring location if called back to stabilize the workforce. The role involves learning train operations, safety compliance, and real-time data coordination within a safety-sensitive environment, with shift work, nights, weekends,

Qualifications

• Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization.
• At least 18 years of age or will be by the start date listed above.
• Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
• Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
• Able to work the above shift/hours.
• Able to meet the above travel requirements.
• Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English.
• Ability to lift and carry up to80pounds.
• Ability to learn to identify, interpret and use hand signals from near and far and visually judge the speed and distance of moving objects.
• Abilityto visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow and lunar (clear light) andam able tosee at night.
• Abilityto visually distinguish and differentiate colors on computer display screens.
• Abilityto differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) and discriminate (comprehend) verbal communication in the work environment.
• Abilityto use handsand use hand toolsto perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.
• Ability to climb ladders and get on/off equipment.
• Ability to work at various heights above the ground including onlocomotives, railcars and other equipment.
• Abilitytobend, lift, walkandstandoccasionally with breaks.
• Ability to walk/perform work on uneven surfaces
• Ability tositfrequentlywith breaks.
• Follow safety policies and procedures; wear required personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

• Communication responsibilities: obtain, receive, and act on information using various devices; monitor and report daily work.
• Switching functions: operate track switches and derails to change routing.
• Train and equipment inspections: inspect cars and monitor track conditions.
• Daily work in safety-sensitive environment with diverse and extreme weather conditions.
• Safety compliance and PPE adherence.
