Job summary

BNSF Railway in Thayer, MO is seeking a Conductor Trainee to learn train operations, safety protocols, and safe movement of freight. Training includes on-the-job and classroom instruction, up to 19 weeks, with travel to Overland Park, KS.

This full-time, 40-hour week position requires on-call availability 24/7, nights, weekends, and holidays, with frequent travel and no relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• Able to read, write and communicate English.
• Capable of lifting up to 80 pounds.
• Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays.
• Able to travel as required by the role.

Responsibilities

• Obtain, receive, and act on information via oral and written channels; monitor and report daily work.
• Operate track switches and derails to route trains and ensure proper alignment.
• Inspect trains and equipment per federal regulations and report conditions.
• Work in a safety-sensitive environment under diverse weather conditions and around heavy machinery.
• Follow safety policies, wear PPE, and comply with regulations during emergencies.
