Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a Signal System Technician to ensure the safety and efficiency of railroad operations. You will perform signal system testing per FRA/UPRR standards and lead installation, repair, and maintenance of signals and grade crossing devices.

Required certifications include pursuing Union Pacific certification during probation, with related motor vehicle and FMCSA medical requirements.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to read and interpret both technical and non-technical information.
  • Must complete English assessment before interview (UP.jobs FAQs).
  • Computer literacy and basic keyboarding skills.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of signal circuitry, equipment, and systems to identify defects.
  • Test signal systems per FRA requirements and report findings.
  • Troubleshoot and repair signal circuitry and equipment.
  • Assemble/disassemble signal crossing equipment as needed.
  • Maintain and replace signal communication circuitry and components.
  • Plan and organize information related to signal systems and guide team members.
  • Perform excavation work for installation purposes.
  • Adhere to FRA and company safety rules.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and contractors.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
