Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a Signal System Technician to ensure safe, reliable signaling across our network. You will conduct testing in line with FRA and UP Railroad requirements, and lead installation, repair, and maintenance of signals and grade crossing devices.

The role demands strict safety adherence, strong problem solving, and the ability to work independently or in a team. You must become a UP-certified driver during probation and pass FMCSA medical standards and an English

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Proficient in working with print and digital information.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, evaluate and record both non-technical and technical information.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Able to work independently or in a team.
  • Must complete an English assessment before interviews.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect signal circuitry, equipment and systems for problems.
  • Test signal circuitry and systems per FRA requirements.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in signaling equipment.
  • Assemble and disassemble signal crossing devices as needed.
  • Maintain and replace signaling components and cables.
  • Plan and track activities related to signaling work and mentor teammates.
  • Perform excavation work for installation needs.
  • Follow FRA rules and safety procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and customers.
