Job summary

City of Hampton is seeking an experienced City Engineer to plan, direct, and oversee the Engineering Services Division within the Department of Public Works. This leadership role provides guidance to engineers, surveyors, and staff while ensuring delivery of engineering services and infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to work with limited supervision from the Director of Public Works.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
12 years of full-time equivalent experience in the administration of complex public works programs.
10 years of supervisory experience.
Professional Engineering License (PE) in Virginia or eligible within six months.
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Successful background check.
Safety-sensitive position with testing for alcohol and controlled substances.

Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and oversee the activities of the Engineering Services Division within the Department of Public Works.
Provide leadership to engineers, surveyors, and technical support staff.
Ensure the effective delivery of engineering services and public infrastructure projects.
Make critical decisions with limited supervision from the Director of Public Works.
