Job summary

Appian Corporation seeks an Area Vice President for the US Public Sector Customer Success PMO. Based in McLean, VA, you will establish governance, drive delivery excellence, and partner with executives to scale our public sector footprint.

Expect in-office collaboration 4–5 days weekly to foster teamwork and customer outcomes. You will lead governance for defense, intelligence, civilian, and state/local portfolios, manage financial performance, and push for strategic capacity planning and risk

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field such as Business Administration, Information Systems, Engineering, or Public Administration.
• 15+ years of progressive program management or delivery leadership experience in enterprise software or government contracting.
• Proven track record establishing and scaling PMOs with governance frameworks and portfolio management.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. public sector contracting, compliance, and procurement processes.
• Experience managing financial performance metrics including forecasting, utilization, and margins.
• Strong command of Agile delivery methodologies in large enterprise programs.
• Exceptional stakeholder management and ability to influence executive audiences.
• Expert-level risk identification, issue resolution, and governance protocols.

Responsibilities

• Architect and operate the PMO governance framework for US Public Sector engagements.
• Lead financial management and delivery performance optimization across the portfolio.
• Align delivery capacity with pipeline growth and ensure proactive risk mitigation.
• Implement risk/issue management protocols and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Drive portfolio reporting and executive-level dashboards for capacity and health insights.
• Coach teams on Agile delivery and embed quality standards to accelerate value.
