Job summary

Kent District Library in Grandville, MI is seeking a customer-focused Circulation Clerk to support patron services across branches. You will check materials in/out, collect fines, register new patrons, and help maintain accurate records in the library system.

You’ll assist with shelf maintenance, provide reference support, and help patrons use digital resources and eReaders. The role requires strong clerical skills, reliability, and the ability to work with supervision in a busy library

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous library/retail experience preferred.
• Basic clerical skills including computer and telephone skills.
• Knowledge of popular culture and genres in library collection.
• Basic mathematical skills for routine calculations.
• Working knowledge of KDL policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with general supervision and adhere to policies.
• Interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with staff and customers; bilingual preferred.
• Leadership to guide less experienced circulation staff.
• Visual acuity to retrieve materials from shelves; ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to travel between KDL locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Check in/out library materials and collect money for fines/fees.
• Register new patrons and issue library cards; update records.
• Sort, shelve, and process materials; handle book drops and maintenance.
• Ensure circulation policies are followed and maintain accurate patron records.
• Run reports for holds and inter-library loan; coordinate item retrieval.
• Provide reference and information services to patrons; assist with searches.
• Demonstrate and assist with eReader devices and digital resources.
• Provide directions and information to customers and support staff.
• Operate equipment (cash register, copiers, faxes) and perform routine maintenance.
