Job summary

Kent District Library, a respected public library system, seeks a Branch Librarian to deliver professional librarianship at a community branch. You will provide reference services, assist patrons with material searches, and support digital resources while engaging in programs for diverse communities.

You will collaborate with a team, handle circulation tasks, and contribute to collection development and community outreach. Strong communication and adaptability are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires a Master's degree in Library Science or related field, or a Bachelor's plus 5 years relevant experience, or a high school diploma plus 10 years applicable experience, with at least five of the ten in Kent District Library service.
• Ability to travel between work locations and related places of business as needed.
• Working knowledge of public library operations, policies, and reference interviews; familiarity with Kent District Library policies.
• Advanced knowledge of public library computer hardware and software applications and how to access/search them.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred; strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
• Analytical ability to maintain accurate statistics and data entry for library records.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and information services to library patrons and interpret patron needs.
• Assist in search for library materials and conduct reference interviews using ILS, databases, and online tools.
• Promote and assist with digital collections and eReader devices; provide tech support to patrons.
• Maintain collection, shelving, shelf-reading, weeding, and display of new materials.
• Manage circulation tasks, issue library cards, and process overdue items.
• Contribute to community outreach and library programs, workshops, and partnerships.
• Record and report reference statistics and run item hold/inter-library loan reports.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers and participate in professional development activities.
