Job summary

Kent District Library is seeking a Circulation Assistant to support patron services at our Kentwood location. Roles include checking items in/out, processing fines, issuing cards, and maintaining the library database with accurate patron records.

The position also involves shelving, assisting with eReaders, providing reference help, and occasional travel between KDL locations. A high school diploma or GED and basic clerical skills are required; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous library or retail experience preferred.
• Basic clerical skills including computer and telephone skills.
• Knowledge of popular culture and genres in the library collection.
• Basic math skills for routine calculations.
• Working knowledge of KDL policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with general supervision and follow policies.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Check in and out library materials, collect money for fines, issue library cards, and register patrons.
• Maintain accurate circulation records and patron information in the system.
• Sort, shelve, and inspect materials; handle book drops and inter-library loans.
• Provide reference and information services to patrons; assist with eReader devices and digital collections.
• Operate library equipment (cash register, copier, printer) and troubleshoot minor issues.
• Travel between KDL locations as needed; support multiple branches.
