Job summary

Kent District Library in Rockford, MI is seeking a Circulation Clerk to support patron service by checking in/out materials, registering patrons, and processing renewals and holds. You will assist with shelf maintenance, data entry, fines and payments, and help patrons use the catalog and eResources.

A high school diploma or GED is required; bilingual English/Spanish preferred; physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds and travel between KDL locations may be needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous library or retail experience preferred.
• Basic clerical skills including computer and telephone skills.
• Knowledge of popular culture and various genres in the library collection.
• Basic mathematical skills for routine calculations.
• Working knowledge of KDL policies and procedures.
• Ability to follow supervision and established policies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for staff and customers; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Leadership ability to guide less experienced circulation staff.
• Visual acuity to retrieve items from shelves; ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to operate clerical and library equipment (cash register, fax, copy machine).
• Willingness to travel between KDL locations.

Responsibilities

• Check in/out library materials and collect payments for fines or damaged items.
• Register new patrons and process name/address changes.
• Maintain and shelve materials; manage book drops and shelf-reading.
• Enter data for late, lost, damaged, and returned items.
• Run holds and inter-library loan reports and relay information to staff.
• Provide reference and information services and assist with catalogs and databases.
• Demonstrate use of digital resources and eReader devices.
• Explain circulation policies and assist customers with account questions.
• Balance monies and forward reconciled funds to Finance Department.
• Assist staff with equipment use and routine maintenance.
• Perform additional clerical tasks and support branch operations.
• Travel between KDL locations as required.
