Qualifications

• Two years of professional experience in public or media relations preferred in a related function.
• Public sector/local government experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred in communications/journalism/public relations.

Responsibilities

• Acts as liaison between Police Department, public, and news media.
• Oversees media relations and public information campaigns.
• Coordinates press conferences and public communications during emergencies.
• Develops and maintains contact with local, national, and international media and civic groups.
• Supports Police Chief with prewritten statements for media interviews.
• Maintains the Police Department’s website and social media content.
• Develops strategic communication plans with the Community Engagement Team.
• Prepares reports and presentations for the public, City Council, and stakeholders.
• Responds to media inquiries and coordinates interviews and timely information.
• Represents the City by engaging with the public in a courteous, professional manner.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned.
