Job summary

The City of Englewood seeks a seasoned Public Information Officer to manage media inquiries, craft public information materials, and develop proactive storytelling for city programs. This role works with the Communications Director to ensure consistent messaging across platforms and strategic communications during emergencies.

You will produce press releases, talking points, and video content, while cultivating strong relationships with local and national media.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of five years in media relations/public information or related field.
• Experience writing for public audiences and producing video content; on-camera experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary point of contact for routine media inquiries and coordinate responses with leadership.
• Develop relationships with local, regional and national media; coordinate interviews and access to City representatives.
• Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, statements, talking points and FAQs.
• Identify proactive story opportunities and pitch stories highlighting City programs and community initiatives.
• Monitor news coverage and emerging issues; brief leadership on significant developments.
• Support crisis communications including preparing public information and coordinating with emergency partners.
• Serve as City spokesperson for on-camera interviews or public information updates.
• Prepare staff for interviews with talking points and key messages.
• Create city videos and on-camera content outlining news updates and explainers.
• Plan video projects from concept through publishing.
