- Manage or assist with managing base, intermediate, and complex construction utility projects
- Lead project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closeout
- Coordinate project activities and perform administrative tasks delegated by the lead project manager or supervisor
- Act on behalf of the lead project manager or supervisor when unavailable
- Apply Waterfall and Agile project management techniques
- Support accountability for the AEP System Safety Process and Zero Harm safety environment
- Develop, review, and coordinate project plans, schedules, budgets, tools, and staffing
- Communicate project details and status updates through meetings, presentations, reports, and other communications
- Build relationships with project teams, plant and operating company staff, customers, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and partners
- Provide guidance on design, systems, procedures, schedules, costs, scope, and project risks
- Coach and develop team members in project management skills and techniques
- Develop and manage procurement plans and outside-service contracts, including requests for proposals, bid evaluation, vendor selection, negotiations, and performance oversight
- Conduct or assist with project closeout and assess achievement of objectives and benefits
- Promote continuous improvement and optimize delivery of project value
- Perform work at AEP locations including offices, homes, power plants, nuclear sites, and construction sites
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with required qualified experience; alternatively, a two-year Associate’s degree with additional qualified experience, or High School Diploma/GED with additional qualified experience
- Project Manager: 3 years qualified experience with bachelor’s degree, 5 years with associate degree, or 7 years with high school diploma/GED
- Project Manager Senior: 5 years qualified experience with bachelor’s degree, 7 years with associate degree, or 9 years with high school diploma/GED
- Project Manager Principal: 7 years qualified experience with bachelor’s degree, 9 years with associate degree, or 11 years with high school diploma/GED
- Qualified experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, outage management, business/financial administration, or comparable experience
- Knowledge of construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
- Leadership, team building, meeting management, and stakeholder communication skills
- Understanding of economic analysis, cost, schedule, and risk management
- Knowledge of Engineering & Design, Procurement, Contracting, Estimating, Construction, and Startup procedures and processes
- Ability to perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns, climbing ladders, and working around hazardous conditions
- Ability to work at homes, offices, power plants including nuclear facilities, and construction sites
- Travel typically 25% or less, with greater travel possible for specific assignments
- Valid state driver's license required
- PMP certification preferred but not required
- Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems favorable
