Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced Project Manager to oversee construction utility projects in Kentucky and surrounding regions. You will lead multi-discipline teams through initiation, planning, execution, and closeout, ensuring safety, schedule, and budget adherence.

The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder communication, and in-depth knowledge of outage management, cost estimation, and risk management. PMP preferred; nuclear power or IT systems experience a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in construction/engineering or related field with 3–7 years of relevant experience.
  • Alternate degrees with corresponding years: associate's 2-year with 5–9 years; high school with 7–11 years.
  • Experience in outage management, construction projects, and project controls.
  • Knowledge of safety, cost estimating, contracting, and risk management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 25%.
  • PMP certification preferred but not required; nuclear power/IT systems experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage or assist in managing base, intermediate, and complex construction utility projects
  • Lead project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closeout
  • Provide leadership, direction, coordination, communication, and project transparency to stakeholders
  • Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate assigned project activities
  • Develop, review, and coordinate project plans, schedules, budgets, tools, and staffing
  • Communicate project details and status updates; lead planning meetings and project/outage updates
  • Build relationships with project teams, plant and operating company staff, customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Provide guidance on design, systems, procedures, schedules, costs, quality, and delivery
  • Ensure safe, efficient, timely, and contract-compliant project performance under the AEP System Safety Process
  • Coach and develop team members on project management skills and techniques
  • Develop and manage procurement plans and outside-service contracts, including proposals, bids, vendor selection, negotiations, and performance oversight
  • Conduct project closeout and analyze achievement of objectives and benefits
  • Progressively assume the lead project manager role and support continuous improvement

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with 3-7 years of qualified experience depending on level
  • Two-year Associate's degree in the same disciplines with 5-9 years of qualified experience depending on level
  • High School Diploma/GED with 7-11 years of qualified experience depending on level
  • Qualified experience in outage management, business/financial administration, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, project management, or comparable production-environment experience
  • Knowledge of construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
  • Effective leadership, team building, meeting management, communication, listening, economic analysis, cost/schedule/risk management, procurement, contracting, scope management, technical-option evaluation, and conflict management skills
  • Valid state driver's license is required
  • Preparedness for specialist-level project management knowledge capability
  • Ability to safely perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns on unstable surfaces and climbing ladders
  • Ability to work at homes, offices, power plants including nuclear facilities, and construction sites
  • Ability to travel, typically 25% or less
  • PMP certification preferred but not required
  • Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems favorable
