Job summary

The Recruiting Hive is seeking a Project Manager for NCDOT-heavy civil work in Charlotte, NC, and across central North Carolina. You will lead NCDOT roadway, bridge, and utility projects from preconstruction through closeout, owning budget, schedule, and reporting, while directing field teams and coordinating with owners, engineers, inspectors, and vendors.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years as PM of record on heavy civil projects, documented NCDOT PM experience, and a contractor-side background.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as the Project Manager of record on heavy civil, highway, bridge or utility work for a contractor.
• NCDOT project experience as the PM is required.
• Must have run projects end-to-end as PM of record, not as an AP/Engineer.
• Contractor-side background required; consultants/inspections not a fit.
• Strong cost control, scheduling, change orders and field-team management.
• OSHA 30 is a plus.
• Charlotte area candidates preferred; relocation welcome.

Responsibilities

• Run NCDOT roadway, bridge and utility projects as the PM of record from preconstruction through closeout.
• Own the budget, schedule, cost reports, forecasting and margin on every job you run.
• Submit accurate cost and income projections and act on variances early.
• Lead superintendents, field engineers and subcontractors to hit production, quality and safety.
• Serve as the main contact for NCDOT, owners, engineers, inspectors and vendors.
• Issue subcontracts and purchase orders and manage subcontractor performance.
• Handle change orders, pay estimates, submittals, claims and contract documentation.
• Run weekly project meetings on schedule and cost, and report performance to leadership.
• Work with estimating on bids and the handoff so the job starts right.
• Keep a strong safety culture on every site.
