Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to streamline planning and coordination of project initiatives while maintaining budgets, compliance regulations and scheduling on heavy civil construction projects in Columbus.

The position requires 3–4 years of related experience and a high school diploma or equivalent; an associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. You will work with subs and managers to prepare schedules, take-offs, and estimates, supporting

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• 3-4 years of related experience is required.
• Must have strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to communicate verbally with employees, vendors, owners and general contractors.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budget, schedule, people, and quality of work at multiple construction sites.
• Competence to perform complete and accurate project take-offs and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Read, understand and interpret drawings and specifications.
• Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Review estimated productions with Superintendents to finalize the bid.
• Prepare a detailed schedule and maintain it.
• Assemble job cost codes for projects and regularly update them.
• Prepare the detail needed for the Project Manager to submit pay estimates to Owners.
• Monitor production, resource utilization and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profit margin on projects.
• Monitor and check progress of project close-out activities such as punch list coordination, furnishing as-built drawings, providing O&M manuals and compiling final estimate/retainer billing.
• Other tasks as needed.
