Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer in Sterling, VA to streamline planning and coordination of project initiatives while maintaining budgets, compliance, and scheduling.

The role requires 3–4 years of related experience and strong organizational and communication skills across multiple sites. You will be responsible for interpreting drawings, soliciting quotes, finalizing bids, developing detailed schedules, and assembling cost codes.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years of related experience required.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks across sites.
• Effective verbal communication with employees, vendors, owners and general contractors.
• Ability to manage budget, schedule, people, and quality of work across projects.
• Competent to perform complete and accurate project take-offs and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Read, understand and interpret drawings and specifications.
• Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Review estimated productions with Superintendents to finalize the bid.
• Prepare detailed schedules and maintain them.
• Assemble job cost codes and regularly update.
• Prepare details for PM to submit pay estimates to Owners.
• Monitor production, resource utilization and job cost vs. budget to maintain profit.
• Track close-out activities (punch lists, as-builts, O&M manuals, final estimates).
• Perform other tasks as needed.
