Job summary

Oswego Community Unit School District 308 is seeking a Program Nurse to provide direct professional nursing services for students in district programs, including gastrostomy-tube feedings, tracheostomy care, and medication administration. Duties include health assessments, emergency response, and coordination with teachers and parents.

The nurse will work within district policies under the direction of the Certified School Nurse and District Health Services Director, supporting health and safety

Qualifications

• RN or BSN with current Illinois license in good standing.
• Knowledge of the ethical and legal expectations set forth in the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Knowledge of Bloodborne Pathogen Policy and Procedures.
• Ability to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
• Specific competencies: safety, first aid, emergencies, hazardous materials, etc.
• Adaptability to school hours and multiple buildings.
• Ability to work independently and in teams, communicate with diverse groups, and maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with gastrostomy-tube feedings and tracheostomy care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct professional nursing services, including administration of medication, first aid, and care for sick students.
• Completes accident/incident reports and forwards them to the district office.
• Keeps a complete daily electronic log of student injuries and illnesses.
• Notifies nursing supervisor and staff to enhance health and safety.
• Maintains student health records and immunization compliance.
• Administers daily and PRN medications under district guidelines.
• Distributes confidential health lists to teachers as needed.
• Contacts parents regarding student absences and health concerns.
• Arranges mandated vision/hearing screenings and follow-ups.
• Serves as an active PPST member and coordinates health information for student evaluations.
• Plans and covers health-related programs and provides health counseling.
