Qualifications

• RN or BSN with current Illinois license in good standing.
• Knowledge of the ANA Code of Ethics and Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Knowledge of Bloodborne Pathogen Policy and Procedures.
• Ability to perform multiple technical tasks and upgrade skills as needed.
• Adheres to safety practices; administers first aid; assess emergencies.
• Operates clinical and office equipment; maintains accurate records.
• Flexibility to work hours across school buildings.
• Ability to work independently and in a team; handle diverse groups; maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct professional nursing services including medication administration and first aid.
• Takes temperatures and comforts sick or injured students until guardian arrives.
• Completes accident/incident reports and forwards them to the district office.
• Maintains a complete daily electronic log of student injuries and illness.
• Notifies nursing supervisor, building administrators, teachers, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action.
• Evaluates and maintains student health records for compliance and immunizations.
• Administers daily and PRN medications per district guidelines and educates students.
• Distributes confidential lists of student health concerns to teachers as needed.
• Contacts parents regarding student absences.
• Coordinates mandated vision/hearing screenings and referrals.
• Serves on PPST and shares health history with the Certified School Nurse.
• Assists with planning, scheduling, and coverage for health programs.
• Provides health counseling to staff, students, and parents.
• Maintains a clean, organized health office and orders supplies.
• Follows Bloodborne Pathogen rules and acts as a resource to staff.
• Informs administrators of unusual health concerns.
• Performs other health or job-related work as assigned.
