Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Program Director for the Northeast Bronx Afterschool initiative. You will lead a holistic youth development program, oversee staff, budgets, and partnerships, and ensure compliance with OCFS/DOH/DYCD standards.

You will cultivate safe, engaging programming, integrate mental wellness resources, and align activities with DYCD requirements while supporting strong family engagement across the community.

Qualifications

• Must have one of the following: Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.
• New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential.
• School-Age Child Care Credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period.
• Two years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Direct programs serving the designated grade level band (K-5 or 6-8).
• Ensure programs are integrated into the community we serve and meet diverse needs.
• Develop and execute recruitment strategies to sustain attendance and engagement.
• Develop and utilize quantitative measures, quality monitoring tools, and external evaluations to demonstrate program effectiveness.
• Routinely analyze data to identify trends and improve program quality.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with schools, funders, and evaluators to enhance program success.
• Lead staff in implementing comprehensive mental wellness support for participants and families.
• Coordinate crisis plans with school social workers and external health providers.
• Oversee SEL curriculum selection and alignment with host school goals.
• Manage program budgets and procurement of supplies, tracking expenses.
• Recruit, train, and retain a diverse staff team to deliver COMPASS program quality.
• Cultivate relationships with host school administration and staff.
• Coordinate schedules for STEAM and Literacy initiatives aligning with academic goals.
• Maintain program documentation per OCFS, DOH, DYCD, and YMCA requirements.
• Communicate YMCA core values to participants and caregivers.
• Maintain regular communication with parents about strengths and growth areas.
